Real Economy Report 157 – Council for Scientific and Industrial Research
The Pretoria campus of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research has launched a centre to display various sanitation technologies. Dennis Ndaba spoke to Hans Ittmann, executive director of the CSIRs Built Environment.
President Obama said, "There are some structural issues with our economy, where a lot of businesses have learned to become much more efficient, with a lot fewer workers. You see it when you go to the bank and use an ATM -- you don't go to a bank teller." We sent our crew to the streets of Alexandria, Virginia and they asked people to sign a petition to ban ATMs to save jobs.

Who cares? Ban the fees. Let businesses who cannot survive go out of business. USA was never about coddling weak businesses. The time for bailing out companies with weak business plans should be over.
If you make an ATM you should agree to follow the rule of law. Part of the price of having the privilege of doing business here in America. You just sound really bigoted and cranky and perhaps too uneducated to know how the free market works. Maybe you’re too young.

@Tekinette It doesn’t have drawbacks or “kill jobs” – there are more bank tellers now then when ATMs became popular in the 70s. Also, automation is the reason that you can afford, well, basically anything. Unless you want cars to cost millions of dollars on the low end so that more people are employed by the factories? Obama said a stupid thing and you are backpedaling for him. Hilarious.

For the record, I asked HerinLasVegas the same question twice. Both times, instead of answering, it became abusive and insulting. Then when I got bored with it, it claimed “victory” and said that I can’t back up my opinion, when all I did was ask it a question. It’s now clear that giving me an answer would have been making it too easy for me. I assume he treats me this way because he considers me an enemy. Anyone who asks questions rather than agreeing, must be an enemy right? What a nutter.

@Tekinette You’re right. Technology frees us from work and should allow us to focus on more interesting things in life. It’s it great that we don’t have to walk for miles to get clean water and food. It’s awesome and it’s all thanks to science and technology. Unfortunately we live in a civilization which demands that anyone who is not born with plenty of money already in their pocket, must work for their freedom. Some of us get lucky, like me, I’m an inventor. But others are not so lucky.
